Visiting Germany, PM Anwar Ibrahim Affirms Malaysia's Opposite Colonialism

JAKARTA - Malaysian Prime Minister (PM) Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that Malaysia's policy was consistent against colonialism, apartheid, ethnic cleansing to confiscation of the position of any country.

PM Anwar's firm statement answered media questions at a press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz which was followed online from Kuala Lumpur, Tuesday (12/3/2024).

Malaysia's policy position is consistent, that the country does not support or oppose colonialism or apartheid or ethnic cleansing or confiscation of the position of any country. Whether it's in Ukraine or in Gaza, Anwar said, asserting.

He said he could not erase the atrocities and seizures that had been going on for 40 years, which had sparked reaction and anger from the public.

He said he strongly rejected the narrative, obsession, as if all the problems started and ended on October 7, 2023.

"It didn't start on October 7, and it didn't end on October 7th. It started four decades earlier, and it continues every day," Anwar asserted, as reported by Antara.

He said discussing many issues with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz who sometimes has different views, but has the same mutual trust in the war that is taking place in Gaza, both of which agree with the immediate release of prisoners and ceasefire, as well as the provision of humanitarian assistance to Palestine, especially those in Gaza.

Malaysia, said Anwar, certainly cares about what happens on October 7, 2023 when the conflict between Hamas and Israel begins. But he asked Europe, especially Germany, to see the fact that atrocities, oppression and robbery of the Palestinian people have occurred for four decades.

On the same occasion, PM Anwar emphasized that Malaysia has no relationship with the Hamas military wing.
