BPBD Palangka Raya: 2,470 Families Affected By Floods

PALANGKA RAYA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Palangka Raya City, Central Kalimantan (Kalteng), recorded that 2,470 families (KK) in this city were affected by flooding due to the overflowing of the Rungan River and Kahayan River.

"As of Monday (11/3) yesterday, the overflowing flood of two large rivers crossing Palangka Raya had an impact on 5,773 people or 2,470 families," said Acting Head of BPBD Palangka Raya City Hendrikus Satriya Budi in Palangka Raya, Tuesday.

He said as many as 5,773 residents came from 18 urban villages spread across four sub-districts. Some of the residents fled because their houses were submerged.

"Based on reports from the village heads, 1,181 houses were flooded and the water entered the floor of the house," said Budi.

Currently, according to him, BPBD Palangka Raya has established refugee posts in Langkai Village and Palangka Village. This post is to accommodate residents whose houses are flooded.

Budi emphasized that the Palangka Raya City Government and BPBD continue to provide assistance to flood-affected residents.

Budi also said that the Acting Mayor of Palangka Raya Hera Nugrahayu, Sunday (10/3), had visited several flood-affected areas such as Jalan Danau Rangas, Bukit Tunggal Village, Petuk Katimpun Village, and the Flamboyan area, Langkai Village.

Hera Nugrahayu also asked residents on the banks of the Kahayan River to be more aware of the increase in water discharge, considering that currently it often rains.

"Currently, there are a number of heads of families affected by the increase in the Kahayan River's water discharge. We ask residents to remain vigilant," he said.

In this area, the increase in Kahayan River and Rungan River on average inundated environmental roads and some housing. He said river water rose to roads and even in houses due to high rainfall.

"The increase in river water discharge occurred due to the high intensity of rain that flushed the Palangka Raya area, as well as other regencies that became the upper reaches of the Kahayan River and Rungan River," he said.
