Hit By High Waves, A Fisherman In Sikka NTT Disappears While Fishing

JAKARTA - A fisherman in Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province was reported missing while fishing in the waters of the southern coast of Lela District. "The victim was named Makarius Sareng (60). The incident on Monday (11 March)," said Head of the Maumere Basarnas Office, Supriyanto Ridwan, ANTARA, Tuesday, March 12. He explained, on Monday at 18.30 WITA the victim and his son Steven Karyawu went to sea using a boat in the waters of the southern coast of Lela District. While in the middle of the sea, the victim fell because the boat he was traveling in was hit by high waves.

"The victim's child managed to save himself by swimming to the beach, but unfortunately the victim was not strong enough to swim and was carried away," he said. After receiving the report, on Tuesday morning the joint SAR team conducted a search by deploying a Basarnas Maumere rubber boat and conducting a sweep around Lela Beach. "The victim has not been found, the search will continue to be maximized until 18.00 WITA," he said.
