As Predicted, Rupiah Closed Down This Friday Afternoon
JAKARTA - The rupiah exchange rate on the spot market was closed lower on Friday, March 13 trading. The rupiah weakened 1.76 percent or 256 points to a level of Rp14,778 per US dollar.
Head of Research at Monex Investindo Futures, Ariston Tjendra, said there was an issue that a US Government stimulus would be released soon, which improved sentiment on financial markets. Rupiah also rebounded from its lowest level today.
"If the US stimulus is launched and meets market expectations, perhaps the rupiah will continue to strengthen next week." said Ariston to VOI.
This afternoon, the rupiah remains the currency with the deepest weakness against the US dollar.
The next positions were filled by the Japanese yen, which fell 1.13 percent and the South Korean won, which depreciated by 1.05 percent.
Meanwhile, the Chinese yuan became the currency with the biggest gain after gaining 0.60 percent. Next there was the Indian rupee which strengthened 0.39 percent. Next, the Hong Kong dollar was up 0.13 percent. Meanwhile, the Singapore dollar strengthened 0.05 percent.
