JAKARTA - The chairman of the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) of the Lampung Region, Dr. Josi Harnos, said that maintaining sufficient fluids in the body is a top priority to maintain fitness when fasting. "The adequateness of fluids in the body is a top priority for meeting their needs, especially when fasting during Ramadan. Because almost all human bodies consist of water and this must not lack fluids to prevent dehydration," said Dr. Josi Harnos in Bandarlampung, quoted from Antara, Monday, March 11. He said efforts to maintain adequate fluids in the body are carried out in addition to keeping the body fit while fasting, also carried out to prevent the presence of insensitive water loss, which is the loss of fluids through the process of diffusion through the skin as well as the process of evaluating through the respiratory fluid.

"The absorption of fluids in this body is not only through urination, but can also be through an insensible water loss. If we fast, for example, a hot sun, low humidity of low air without realizing it can lack fluids which can cause a decrease in concentration and dehydration. This is quite dangerous," he said., he advised the public when fasting to consume two liters of water in one day to protect the body from lack of fluids. "If the two liters are assumed to be eight glasses measuring 200 milliliters, then the four glasses can be drunk when suhoor and four glasses when breaking the fast," he said.

According to him, during fasting, it is also hoped that the community can meet the consumption of fluids above the food needs. "In principle, meeting fluid needs must be above the food needs. Because when we don't eat we can still live but if we don't drink for a day it will be dangerous for health," he said.
