Foreign Minister Wang Yi Says Misappropriation Of The United States Against China Continues

JAKARTA - Foreign Minister Wang Yi said the United States (US) still adheres to the wrong perception of China and has not fulfilled its "promises", despite progress since President Joe Biden and Xi Jinping met in November last year.

Speaking at a news conference on the sidelines of an annual parliamentary meeting in Beijing, Foreign Minister Wang said interactions between the two countries could only continue if both sides respected and acknowledged their differences.

"It must be emphasized that the US's erroneous perception of China continues, and the promises made by the US have not been fulfilled," Foreign Minister Wang said at the National People's Congress, quoted by Reuters on March 8.

"The method to suppress China continues to be updated and the unilateral sanctions list continues to expand," he continued.

"The crime that the US wants to add to the list that China allegedly did has reached a hard-to-confidence level," said Foreign Minister Wang.

Even so, President Biden has emphasized that the United States does not want to create a new Cold War or seek to change the Chinese system or support Taiwan's independence, he said.

In this annual discussion, Foreign Minister Wang also discussed relations with Russia and the Ukraine, Europe, China's slumped economy and artificial intelligence.

Tensions between the two superpowers have eased slightly since President Biden and Chief Xi held a San Francisco summit last November, but they remain in tension ahead of this year's US elections.

China accuses the US of trying to stem and suppress the development policies and the high-tech industry, while the two militaries are monitoring each other amid increased placements in East Asia.

"So we urge the US to understand the trend of historical developments, to see China's developments objectively and rationally (and) pragmatically interact with China," he said.
