Considered Often Spending Budget For Inefficients, JK Calls Jokowi's Government Will Make It Difficult For New Leaders
JAKARTA - The 10th and 12th Vice Presidents of the Republic of Indonesia Jusuf Kalla said that the new president will face challenges after being inaugurated, one of which is related to the budget. The reason is that the government of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has spent funding sources for things that sometimes do not need.
"Whoever the government is, it is not easy to rule Indonesia during the future government," said JK in a discussion on 'Consolidation for Democracy after the 2024 General Election: Opposition or Coalition?' at the Juwono Sudarsono Auditorium Fisip UI, Depok, Thursday, March 7.
"Why? Because the government has now spent all the sources of funds on something that is sometimes inefficient, not principled," he continued.
JK said that infrastructure development is indeed important to help people's mobility, one of which is toll roads. He gave an example that his journey only took 20 minutes when he headed to the UI Campus.
But behind that, JK mentioned that there are people who are affected by the development. "Of course it's not good for those who own the house next to it. So they can no longer build a shop, build a shop anymore," he said.
"So there is also a good bad development. Good for those who have a car, it's not good for those who walk," said JK.

This ineffective development will later become a problem for the government in the future. Thus, wider people's affairs should be prioritized, including economic matters.
If the economy, everyone gets hit. If the price of rice goes up, everything will get hit. If this price goes up, inflation is high, everyone gets hit. Of course there are also those who are happy, who have a lot of cash. But in general it will be affected. There is no more opposition problems there but the overall people's problem," concluded JK.
