Ministry Of Energy And Mineral Resources: Rooftop PLTS Program Will Boost Solar Industry

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) said that the Roof Solar Power Plant (PLTS) program would boost the domestic solar module industry.

"It is estimated that the Rooftop PLTS program can encourage domestic solar module production," said Acting Director General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Jisman P Hutajulu, in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, March 5.

He said that the government is targeting the total electricity production of 1 gigawatt (GW) from the Roof PLTS which is connected to the PLN network, as well as 0.5 GW from the non-PLN Roof PLTS for each year.

"With the assumption that the capacity of 1 solar module is 450 Wp (watt peak), it is necessary to produce around 3.3 million solar panels," said Jisman.

According to Jisman, this will encourage the growth of the solar module industry in Indonesia.

On the upstream side, he said, Indonesia has silica sand that can be used to support the solar cell industry.

The silica sand is one of the mining materials that can be used for the manufacture of glasses, glasses, a mixture of cement, a blasting of pipes (sand blasting), and others.

Thus, said Jisman continued, it is hoped that the Roof PLTS program can support the planned upstream solar cell industrial development plan in Central Java, Batam Island, and Rempang Island.

Through the Roof PLTS Program, Jisman also invites the public to contribute directly to the use of green energy, as well as increase awareness in carrying out energy efficiency, especially during the day by maximizing the energy of the Roof PLTS.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources noted that the development achievement of the Roof PLTS until December 2023 was 140 megawatts (MW), with a target in 2025 of 3.6 GW.

In order to accelerate the development of Rooftop PLTS, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources revised the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation Number 26 of 2021, to become the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation Number 2 of 2024.

"This regulation regulates the installation of ATAP PLTS, both for PLN itself as the largest Wulus (business area) holder in Indonesia and the non-PLN business area," he also said.
