Weather February 5, BMKG: Beware Of Extreme Weather Heavy Rain Accompanied By Lightning In 32 Provinces

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said heavy rain accompanied by lightning or lightning could potentially occur at a number of points in 32 provinces in Indonesia, Tuesday, February 5. Based on the weather early warning from the BMKG website which was monitored in Jakarta, Tuesday morning, heavy rain was predicted in Aceh Province, North Sumatra.

Also West Sumatra, Riau, Riau Islands, Bengkulu, Jambi, South Sumatra, Bangka Belitung Islands, Lampung, West Java, Central Java, DI Yogyakarta, East Java, and Bali. Then West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, Central Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, North Maluku, Maluku, West Papua, and Papua.

In addition to heavy rains, BMKG also mentioned several areas that have the potential to be hit by strong winds, including Aceh Province, Bangka Belitung Islands, West Java, DI Yogyakarta, East Java, West Nusa Tenggara, North Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan. The areas that are predicted to rain with moderate intensity which can be accompanied by lightning or lightning, namely Aceh, Riau, Bengkulu, Jambi, South Sumatra, Bangka Belitung Islands, Lampung, Banten, West Java, DKI Jakarta, Central Java, DI Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Nusa Tenggara. Then West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, Central Sulawesi, North Maluku, Maluku and West Papua.

Previously, BMKG Deputy for Meteorology Guswanto said that extreme weather conditions in Indonesia still have the potential to appear until March 8, 2024. He also said that the extreme weather conditions were influenced by a number of things, such as Equatorial Rossby wave activity in parts of Indonesia.

The wave is a phenomenon that occurs in fluids (atmospheres/oceans) that olate in pairs and move west around the equatorial area. The Equatorial Rossby wave is also known as planetary waves.

Another thing that affects the emergence of extreme weather is the formation of a pattern of slowdown, meeting, and wind bends in parts of Indonesia.
