The Ministry Of PUPR Targets The Sea Embankment Project On The DKI Jakarta Coast To Be Completed By The End Of 2024
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) targets the construction of a 1.6 kilometer river embankment and estuary (km) on the coast of DKI Jakarta to be completed later this year.
"Currently, (the construction of the 1.6 km coastal embankment) is being worked on and is targeted to be completed by the end of 2024," said PUPR's statement quoted from its official Instagram @kemenpupr, Monday, March 4.
The Ministry of PUPR itself through the Coastal Integrated Development program of the State Capital (PTPIN) has built a coastal embankment and river estuary on the coast of DKI Jakarta along the 4.57 km during 2014-2018.
Then, in 2019, a collaboration was carried out with the Provincial Government (Pemprov) of DKI Jakarta. Thus, within 2019-2024 a embankment of 8.27 km has been built.
"The total length of the embankment to be built is 14.45 km," he said.
The benefits of the PTPIN program are to hold seawater due to tidal waves or tidal flooding, reduce economic losses and social losses due to tidal flooding and as a clear limit to land development in coastal areas.
As previously reported, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) will build a 1.6 kilometer river embankment and estuary (km) in 2024.
Director General of Water Resources of the Ministry of PUPR Bob Arthur Lombgia said that the construction of coastal embankments and river estuaries had been carried out strategically since 2020.
"For 2024, the Ministry of PUPR is working on 1,664 meters (shore embankments) and one retention pond unit at Kamal Muara Dadap Beach and Muara Sungai Kali Dadap River, which is 1.6 km. This is the completion of the agreement we have made with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government for the construction of this coastal embankment," said Bob at the National Seminar Giant Sea Wall in Central Jakarta, Wednesday, January 10.

Bob said, overall the total length of the coastline and river estuary as well as the coast of Jakarta reached 120 km. Of these, based on the details of the 2016 NCICD design, the length of the coastline and the critical mouth of the river is 46.2 km.
"The review is 38 km long and in 2014-2019 the construction of coastal embankments and river estuaries has been carried out by the central government, provincial governments and private parties along 13 km, so that there are coastlines and river estuaries which are still said to be critical along 25 km," he said.
Meanwhile, Bob continued, the government also plans to build a sea wall/open sea embankment as part of the concept of flood control on the coast of Jakarta Bay Phase B. The plan is for this project to be included in the construction of 2030-2050.
