Royke was an alumni of Trisakti University in 1987. At the university he won a Bachelor's degree in Economics at the Management Economics Department. After that he resumed his education at the University of Technology Sydney. On campus he successfully won the Master of Business Finance (1999).

His career in banking began in 1999. At that time he joined the State Trade Bank (BDN), a bank owned by the Government of Indonesia until he finally joined as Bank Mandiri. Royke's position at BDN is as a Credit Analyst in the issue of Credit Monitoring and Research at BDN.

After BDN merged into Bank Mandiri, Royke was withdrawn to the state-owned bank by occupying a position as Bank Mandiri Head Corporate Banking in 2005. He then moved to Group Head Regional Commercial Sales in 2007.

His career at Bank Mandiri continued to climb. Royke was once a Bank Mandiri Corporate Banking Director from March 2018 to December 2019. Finally, at Bank Mandiri he served as President Director of Bank Mandiri in 2019 until he finally moved to another state-owned bank, namely Bank BNI.

Royke Tumilaar's appointment at Bank BNI was based on the results of the Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders (EGMS) of PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk which was held in September 2020. At that time Royke was appointed as President Director of BNI replacing Herry Sidharta.

As a senior banker with a wealth of experience, he got the mandate to bring BNI to a better direction. The reason is, BNI had experienced difficult times due to the pandemic.
