2-year-old Boy Dragged By Flood In Kendari Found Dead
The Kendari Basarnas Rescue Team managed to find a toddler named Fani (2) who was swept away by the flood current in a state of death. Head of Basarnas Kendari Muhammad Arafah said that the victim was found dead about 50 meters southeast of the location where the victim fell in the Lorong Puao ditch, Bende Village, Kadia Kota Kendari District, Southeast Sulawesi Province. "The victim was immediately evacuated and handed over to his family," said Muhammad Arafah as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, February 4. He said that with the discovery of the victim, the SAR operation of the search for one child who fell into the ditch due to the flood was declared complete and closed. "And all the elements involved were returned to their respective units," he said. Previously, the Kendari Basarnas Rescue Team conducted a search for a two-year-old toddler who was carried by the flood current in Lorong Puao, Bende Village, Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi Province. He said that the toddler named Fani (2 years), who was reported missing by Brimob personnel of the Southeast Sulawesi Police at 03:45 WITA. "We received reports that one child fell into a ditch due to the flood," he said. He said after receiving the information, his party immediately dispatched the Kendari Basarnas Rescue Team to the location to provide assistance for the SAR. "The distance of the location is with Basarnas Kendari about 10 kilometers," he said. In the operation, he continued, several equipment was used namely rescue cars, rubber boats, aqua eye, medical palsars, evacuation palsars, communication equipment, and several other safety support equipment. He explained that the fall of the victim in the ditch began when the toddler fell and entered into the ditch.

"When he fell, the mother and victim were carried away by the current of the water caused by heavy rain," he explained. He said that at that time, the victim's mother was rescued after being dragged by the current as far as 25 meters. However, the toddler was separated from his mother.
