Economic Growth Dongkrak, Indonesian Crafts Exports Reach 802,597 Million US Dollars Throughout 2023
JAKARTA - The handicraft industry is one of the sectors that plays an important role in boosting national economic growth. Including, from its large contribution to the export value of the manufacturing industry.
The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) said, based on data from the TradeMap.org report, the total export value of Indonesian handicrafts to the global market reached 802,597 million US dollars throughout 2023.
Director General of Small, Medium and Multifarious Industries (IKMA) of the Ministry of Industry, Reni Yanita, said that through this positive performance, Indonesia holds a market share of up to 2 percent of the world's handicraft product market share.
"Therefore, the export share market of Indonesian handicrafts is still very possible to grow, with large domestic and foreign market potential and supported by industrial sector development policies," said Reni in a written statement received by VOI, Monday, March 4.
Reni said that her party was consistent in simplifying and expanding market access for small and medium industry players (IKM). For example, facilitating handicraft and wastra IKM players can participate in international standard exhibitions.
" handicraft products from Indonesia are very competitive in the global arena because of the abilities and skills of their craftsmen and are supported by a touch of diverse national culture. This makes our handicraft products have added value, high selling value and aesthetics," he said.
He added that the handicraft industry has the potential to grow bigger in Indonesia because of the distribution of handicraft industry centers located in various parts of the country.
"I am proud to see the creative industry sector continue to grow rapidly in the country. The creative industry is not only one of the potential economic sectors, but is a forum for exploring and maintaining local wisdom and cultural heritage which is an inseparable part of our identity as a nation," he said.

Furthermore, Reni revealed, in order to boost the market share of the handicraft industry in the country, her party routinely facilitates IKM assisted in the Inacraft Exhibition. This year, the event was held in Jakarta on February 28 - March 3, 2023, and was attended by 1,500 MSMEs or IKM players from various regions.
"We facilitated 12 IKM assisted to participate in Inacraft 2024 after passing the curation process for a month," he added.
The Inacraft exhibition itself has succeeded in becoming an event for the appearance of Indonesian superior handicraft products, both in terms of design, innovation, characteristic and regional local wisdom and global market-oriented.
