The Nagan Raya Police, Aceh Province, has begun to investigate the case of the death of a Sumatran elephant (Elephas airs Sumatrensis) in the Paya Udeung Village area, Seunagan District, local district.
"We are still investigating this case with the BKSDA Resor Meulaboh, West Aceh," said Seunagan Police Chief, Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh, Iptu Muhammad Thahar, quoted from Antara, Saturday, March 2.
He said the finding of the dead elephant has so far not been confirmed by a team of doctors from the Aceh Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) and related parties from the Aceh BKSDA Resort Meulaboh.
"Still under examination from the team of doctors, we are still waiting for the latest information," he added.
M Thahar said the Sumatran elephant, which was found dead on Friday, March 1, is thought to have died since one week ago.
So that the elephant carcass can no longer be carried out an autopsy because its condition has decomposed.
"As material for examination and investigation by the BKSDA, the four-meter-long elephant tusk has now been brought to Banda Aceh, the capital city of Aceh Province," he said.
