PLN Supply 4.3 MVA Electricity For Makassar New Port

PT PLN (Persero) has again demonstrated its commitment to realizing an electricity-efficient and environmentally friendly or green port-friendly port by supplying a total power of 4.3 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA) to Makassar New Port (MNP) in Makassar City, South Sulawesi.

Inaugurated by President Joko Widodo (21/2), Makassar New Port will be the driver of the economy in Eastern Indonesia based on environmentally friendly and pollution-free energy.

General Manager of PT PLN (Persero) Main Distribution Unit of South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi and West Sulawesi (UID Sulselrabar) Moch Andy Adchaminoerdin explained that the MNP electrification effort and the New Makassar Container Terminal are a form of PLN's commitment to support port activity productivity and create a green port launched by the government.

"In order to accelerate the economy in Eastern Indonesia, we are targeting the electrification of port piers with our program, namely electrifying marine, PLN is a solution for business actors by presenting reliable electricity supply without noise pollution and more environmentally friendly," said Andy, quoted by Antara, Saturday, March 2.

Andy continued, to ensure that loading and unloading activities run smoothly, PLN supplied two auctioners from two main substations that used a double supply scheme. So that the electricity supplied is more reliable, without flickering, and smokeless.

PLN is committed to supporting the green port program that has been launched by the government by electrifying the container terminal and we are ready to answer the need for electricity with a high level of reliability.

"Emissions were initially and customer operational costs were high, currently much lower," said Andy.

Currently, the New Renewable Energy Agency (EBT) in the Southern Sulawesi Electricity System (Sulbagsel) is 45.78 percent above the national target average in 2025, which is 23 percent.

New Makassar Container Terminal Technical Manager Rachmadhani appreciates PLN's excellent service. "Thank you to PLN for providing good and responsive services in coordination to ensure electricity supply in Makassar New Port," said Rachmadhani.

The electricity service program for clothing or electrifying marine ships and in collaboration with PT Pelindo (Persero) in 2018 was also able to reduce the operational costs of the New Makassar Container Terminal to 61.97 percent per year.

New Makassar Container Head Terminal Muhammad Syukur explained that after using electricity, the operating costs incurred drastically decreased. If using diesel engines the operational costs reach IDR 23.4 billion per year, then using electricity is only IDR 8.9 billion per year.

Not only does it help save and facilitate operations, but using electricity can also participate in the green port program to reduce exhaust emissions at the Port.
