Accused Of Facilitating Genocide In Gaza, Germany Complained By Nirakagua To ICJ

JAKARTA - Nicaragua complained Germany to the International Court (ICJ/International Court of Justice) on charges of "enhancing" genocide in Gaza on Friday, March 1. The German facilitation, according to Nicaragua, was also carried out by discontinuing funding to the United Nations for Job Affairs and Recovery for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

"Nikakaragua believes that Germany makes it easier for genocide to occur, does not fulfill its obligation to make every effort to prevent genocide," ICJ said as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, March 2.

According to Nicaragua, the ICJ said, the "facilitation" was shown by Germany by providing political, financial and military support to Israel. Nicaragua asked the ICJ to take temporary steps "with respect to " Germany's participation in genocide".

Nicaragua considers Germany to have committed "serious violations of international humanitarian law and other international law norms, as is taking place in the Gaza Strip".

Israel has killed more than 30,000 people through its attacks on the Gaza Strip since the Palestinian resistance group, Hamas, raided Israel on October 7, 2023.

The Israeli military attack caused massive evacuations and put citizens at risk of starvation.

At the end of 2023, South Africa also filed a case with the ICJ on charges that Israel did not fulfill the mandate of the 1948 Genocide Convention.

The ICJ in January issued a temporary ruling, stating that the opinions proposed by South Africa made sense.

The UN judicial body then issued a temporary order against the Israeli government to stop committing genocide. Israel was also ordered to take steps that ensure civilians in Gaza could receive humanitarian aid.
