US Blocks UN DK Reactions To Israeli Military Attacks On Help-Increased Gazans
JAKARTA - The United States has reportedly blocked the UN Security Council's reaction to an Israeli military offensive against a convoy of humanitarian aid in Gaza, resulting in the deaths of 112 Palestinians and injuring another 760.
During a meeting of the UN Headquarters Security Council in New York, member states discussed the issuance of statements in response to attacks on humanitarian aid convoys in Gaza City.
After the closed session, no statement was issued.
Based on information obtained by Anadolu, a draft resolution containing critical comments against Israel failed to obtain approval from the US Permanent Mission to the United Nations.
The draft resolution expressed deep concern over reports that 112 people had lost their lives and another 760 were injured as Israeli forces opened fire on crowds awaiting food aid in southwest Gaza.
The resolution calls on all parties to refrain from seizing essential services and humanitarian aid for civilians in the Gaza Strip, based on international humanitarian law.
The resolution also warns of a potential acute food crisis affecting the entire population of 2.2 million people in Gaza if action is not taken immediately.
Members of the council urged Israel to continue to open border crossings to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza and facilitate the opening of additional crossings to meet humanitarian needs on a wider scale.
On Thursday (29/2), Israeli troops opened fire on a crowd of Palestinians awaiting humanitarian assistance on Al Rashid Street, a main coastal road west of Gaza City in northern Gaza, leaving 112 Palestinians dead and another 760 injured, according to Gaza-based Health Ministry.
Israel has launched a deadly military offensive in the Gaza Strip since the October 7, 2023 attack by the Palestinian Hamas group, which Tel Aviv says killed nearly 1,200 people.

It was recorded that 30,035 Palestinians had died and 70,457 others were injured amid mass destruction and shortages of basic necessities.
Israel has also imposed a blockade that has paralyzed the Gaza Strip, which has left its residents, especially residents of northern Gaza, on the verge of starvation.
The Israeli war caused 85 percent of Gaza's population to flee amid shortages of food, clean water, and medicine, while 60 percent of the infrastructure in the region had been damaged or destroyed, according to the United Nations.
Israel is accused of committing genocide at the International Court. A provisional decision in January ordered Tel Aviv to stop genocide and take steps to ensure humanitarian aid was given to civilians in Gaza.
