Surya Paloh Affirms NasDem Is Ready To Be An Opposition

Chairman of the NasDem Party, Surya Paloh, emphasized that his party is ready to become an opposition if the presidential and vice presidential candidates are promoted, namely Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar, lose the 2024 presidential election.

Surya emphasized this after holding a meeting with Anies, Muhaimin, and the general chairmen of the political party (parpol) of the Change Coalition.

"Ready. We are ready to go to all-weather," said Surya at Wisma Nusantara, Jalan MH Thamrin, Central Jakarta, Friday, February 23.

Surya Paloh also emphasized that NasDem would remain in the path of change. Although, until now there are still party cadres in the cabinet of President Joko Widodo.

"God willing, we hope that the route of change," he said.

However, if there will be political dynamics in the future government, Surya admits that he will communicate with PKB and PKS as the political parties that carry the Change Coalition in determining the party's future attitude.

"I will first ask Mas Imin, then I will ask again this, or Mas Syaikhu (President of PKS). Finally, I ask for the opinion of our presidential candidate, yes," said Surya Paloh.

"This is what we are, maybe all of us have one thing in common, one determination, one language. We want to give our best for the journey, process, journey of our national life with democracy that is maintained properly," he continued.

For information, in the results of the vote count calculation of the General Election Commission (KPU) as of Thursday, February 22 at 23.00 p.m., presidential and vice-presidential candidates number 2 Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka outperformed the vote acquisition by 58.89 percent. They were promoted by the Gerindra, Golkar, PAN, and Democrats.

Meanwhile, pair number 1 Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar promoted by NasDem, PKB, and PKS received 24.06 percent of the votes.

Then, the presidential and vice presidential candidates number 3 Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD promoted by PDIP and PPP received 17.05 percent of the votes. This vote acquisition figure is only 75 percent of the total election results.
