Fadli Zon Calls For Parliament Throughout Asia To Encourage Justice For Palestine
Chairman of the BKSAP (Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency) DPR RI Fadli Zon called on parliament throughout Asia to encourage justice for the Palestinian people.
This was conveyed in his speech while attending the 14th Plenary Session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) or the Asian Parliamentary General Assembly in Baku, Azerbaijan with the theme of fostering regional cooperation for sustainable development in Asia.
Fadli Zon, who also serves as Deputy Chair of the Plenary Session, made a statement at the General Debate session by strongly condemning all Israeli practices that have violated the human rights of the Palestinian people in Gaza and are still ongoing today.
Fadli Zon stated that although the International Court (ICJ) had ordered Israel to prevent all acts of genocide, the death toll in Gaza continued to grow. Rafah, which is the most populous region in the world, was also bombarded by Israel.
This is the modern 21st century and presents many opportunities, but human rights violations in Gaza are still happening in sight brutally. Moreover, 70 percent of the 29 thousand fatalities are innocent women and children. The situation in Rafah is also very concerning," said Fadli Zon.
He said, about 1.5 million people there no longer have a safe place to evacuate. This genocidal practice must be stopped. Orders from the International Court to Israel must be implemented in real terms.
Furthermore, the Deputy Chairperson of the Gerindra Party's Board of Trustees said that Israel's practice was not in line with the principles of sustainable development, which was the main theme of this meeting of Parliament throughout Asia in Azerbaijan.
Israel's inhuman practices are not in line with the agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development. The Palestinian people have lived with poverty and climate change for example, but are now exacerbated by Israeli atrocities," said Fadli.
Fadli has the view that parliament, including the APA member parliament, has played a major role in humanitarian issues in Gaza by effectively using parliamentary diplomacy and working together to support efforts to stop Israeli atrocities.
Parliament throughout Asia must realize that ending climate change and poverty must also be accompanied by a settlement of the tragedy in Gaza.
"Parliaments must have meaningful dialogues, by upholding Asian values that prioritize the principles of social harmony, collectivism, and mutual understanding which are prerequisites for achieving peace and stability," said Fadli.
In this regard, Fadli called for four important things that must be raised during dialogue, namely supporting a ceasefire in Gaza, ensuring access to humanitarian aid in full, expanded and without obstacles for Palestinians, ensuring that the International Court's orders against Israel are carried out effectively, and calling on relevant countries to immediately resume their funding assistance to UNRWA.

In addition, the Chairman of the BKSAP DPR RI also called on the APA Committee for Palestine to be operated effectively. In this case, Fadli is of the view that: What Committee related to Palestine should not do business-ass-usual. They must establish and achieve clear goals, provide strategic solutions, and carry out special missions to see firsthand the situation in Palestine.
In closing his statement, Fadli said that Indonesia would not remain silent until the rights of the Palestinian people were fulfilled, and fully support Indonesia's efforts to deliver verbal statements before the ICJ regarding the legal consequences of Israel's occupation of Palestine.
