Four Indonesian Telecommunication Operators Launch Three API Services To Increase Security

JAKARTA - Four telecommunication operators in Indonesia including Telkomsel, Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, XL Axiata, and Smartfren, launched three Application Programming Interface (API) services, namely Number Verify, SIM Swap, and Device Location.

As part of implementing the GSMA Open Gateway global initiative, this API service is intended to provide increased security and experience for customers.

API Number Verify itself is a service that aims to facilitate verification of the user's mobile number, ensure strong authentication, and can address problems such as SMS delivery failures or user technology challenges.

Then, the Swap SIM will be used to detect the latest changes to the SIM card or mobile number, which is very important in preventing account takeover, especially during financial transactions.

Meanwhile, Device Location will allow an organization to confirm the specific location of a device, improve fraud detection and accuracy for services such as delivery apps, which can also prevent GPS manipulation and fraudulent activity.

"The initiative between Indonesian telecommunications companies aims to build interconnections between operators that can have an impact on the progress of the telecommunications industry," said Telkomsel's Planning and Transformation Director, Soon Nam in a statement, quoted Thursday, February 22.

Thus, Soon Nam added, this initiative can provide added value for customers through digital platforms and services that will further encourage the progress of the nation.

Meanwhile, Indosat Ooredoo Chief Officer Hutchison, Sanjeev Rawat, said that this collaboration shows an opsel commitment in Indonesia to drive economic progress in Indonesia from the technology and digitalization sector.
