IMIP Boss Explains A Number Of Homeworks For President Jokowi's Successors

JAKARTA - CEO of PT Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP) Alexander Barus explained a number of his hopes to the new President to replace Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

As an industry player, Alex hopes that the government will accelerate the licensing process related to mining, one of which is the Work Plan and Budget (RKAB) which is an obligation for mining companies.

"That's an obstacle because RKAB is a ticket to sell, we need to talk about this," he said in the Mining Zone quoted Monday, February 19.

Alex added that another thing that needs to be considered is the granting of permission that should be done one door.

He gave an example, for companies that will only set up a smelter without mining, they must take care of licensing to the Ministry of Industry in order to obtain an Industrial Business License, while mining companies that also have a smelter must apply for a permit from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in order to obtain a Special Mining Business License (IUPK).

"I mean that if he is an investor, he knows RI, so the permit is one place," continued Alex.

On the other hand, Alex asked the government to recalculate nickel resources owned by Indonesia.

The reason is, RI also has limited nickel reserves.

According to Alex, currently Indonesia has a nickel power suber, amounting to 18 billion tons, while the estimated nickel reserves owned by Indonesia are 5 billion tons with a proven reserve of 1.5 billion tons.

"Now every year we dig around 150 million MT, in 10 years the PROven will end. We have to continue that, so we have to calculate the smelters that use spoils," he said.

Alex explained, based on its type nickel is divided into saprolite and limousine.

Saprolite is a raw material that produces stainles steel and has been mined on a large scale.

Meanwhile, limousine nickel is the raw material for making battery cathodes and has large amounts of resources.

"This smelter (sapprolate) that has been built, stop so that we can sustain our resources. So in development, we must be gradual, tiered, sustainable, that is what we must hold," concluded Alex.
