Focusing On Tensors, Google Ends Updates For Pixel 4 And 5 Series
JAKARTA Pixel, a smartphone made byGoogle, was first launched in 2016. Over the years, Google developed their phone with Qualcomm's Snapdragon processor.
However, the use of Snapdragon lasts only five years. In 2021, when Pixel 6 was released to be exact, Google decided to stop using Snapdragon and switch to Tensor, their processor.
Although Google has released three Pixel series with the Tensor processor, the company is still providing updates to the Pixel 4 and Pixel 5 series. Unfortunately, the update for the two devices will end after Android 15 releases.
Some time ago, Google announced that it will launch Android 15 in March. These updates will be added to Pixel 6a, Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet, and Pixel 8 and 8 Pro.
The announcement shared on the Developer Preview page confirms that the Pixel 4 and Pixel 5 series will not get any more updates. This news is not surprising because Google has only promised updates for five years.

The Pixel 4 and Pixel 5 series actually had some problems at launch. Google was late in releasing Pixel 4a and sales of Pixel 4 were discontinued before one year of sales. Meanwhile, the Pixel 5 feels like a replacement device.
After the Pixel 6 was introduced to the Tensor, Google began to enter a new chapter. Their device feels better even though it still has some flaws. The operating system (OS) continues to be developed until the Pixel 8 appears.
Currently, Google is focusing on the breakthrough Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Tensor system, similar to the design of the Galaxy AI in Samsung. Although the Pixel 4 and Pixel 5 series are not even five years old, it makes sense that Google is stopping its updates early.
