JAKARTA The journey of Japanese tennis player, Naomi Osaka, at the Qatar Open 2024 was stopped in the quarter-finals when she lost two straight games, Friday, January 16, 2024.

The former world number one had to bury his dream of winning the title after losing 7-6 (8-6) and 7-6 (7-5) against fellow former world number one from the Republic of Ceska, Karolina Paliskova.

Osaka, who is the owner of four Grand Slam titles, returned to tennis last month after giving birth to her daughter, Shai, in July 2023.

His quarter-final meeting with Pliskova was the furthest journey he has made since reaching the Miami Open final in April 2022 and then losing against Iga Swiatek.

In another match, Swiatek, who is currently ranked first in the world, continued his efforts to win the Qatar Open for the third time in a row after winning and advancing to the semifinals.

Swiatek only took 74 minutes to beat the former world number one from Belarus, Victoria Azarenka, 6-4 and 6-0.

The Polish tennis player is in a positive trend with 11 consecutive wins in Doha. Next in the semifinals, he will face Pliskova who is in his best form.

22-year-old Swiatek currently has a record win-loss at Qatar Open. The only defeat occurred in the second half of 2020 against Svetlana Kuznetsova.
