Viral Exit Poll 2024 Election Abroad, KPU: Vote Calculations Cannot Be Started
The viral video on social media platform TikTok shows the provisional results of the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres) in six countries, including Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and Taiwan. Chairman of the General Elections Commission (KPU) Hasyim Asy'ari, responded to the video.
He explained that vote calculations abroad can only be carried out after elections in Indonesia take place, along with domestic calculations.
"The calculation of votes abroad is carried out using the methods of TPS, Pos, KSK, and the Voting Committee (PPS), and the results are calculated simultaneously with domestic elections," said Hasyim, Monday, February 12.
Hasyim Asyari emphasized that the publication of the vote acquisition results before the official vote count began had to be ignored.
"The survey method can be carried out at least two methods, quick count and exit poll. The quick count method can be taken from the polling station and can be known at night or in the early hours of the morning," he said.
"If the exit poll method is after choosing, the researcher immediately asked. That is what was recorded and compiled into the results of the prediction," continued Hasyim.
The counting of votes is regulated in Election Law Number 7 of 2017. Hasyim Asy'ari reminded that the implementation of a quick calculation of the election results must register with the KPU no later than 30 days before voting. Violations of this rule are considered a criminal act of election.
With this regulation, Hasyim Asy'ari emphasized that the publication of the election results before the specified time could be considered a violation of election crimes.
"The question is, who published it yesterday registered with the KPU or not? Is there a certificate from the KPU or not? Can you check it," said Hasyim.

He emphasized that in paragraph (5) it is stated that the announcement of the estimated rapid calculation results can only be carried out no later than two hours after the vote in the western part of Indonesia.
"The people (6) regulate violations related to the provisions of the previous paragraph, which is a criminal act of election. So if someone has published the election results before the time is determined, they are categorized as election crimes," he concluded.
