Landslides In Intan Jaya Papua, 5 People Died
JAKARTA - BNPB reported that five people were found dead due to floods and landslides in Sugapa District, Intan Jaya Regency, Papua.
"The latest developments were that five residents died and one was seriously injured as a result of this disaster," said Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, February 9.
He said the steepness of hilly terrain and bad weather had quite hampered disaster emergency operations by a joint team consisting of personnel from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Polres, Koramil Intan Jaya.
BNPB ensured that the joint team was still trying to evacuate the affected victims by utilizing equipment and all the resources assisted by church administrators to local residents.

Previously, the Regent of Intan Jaya established an emergency response status for landslides and flash floods in the area, as stated in the Intan Jaya Regent's Decree number 100.3.3.2-024 of 2024.
The emergency response status is valid for 14 days starting February 7, 20, 2024.
The Intan Jaya government reported that apart from hoarding residential areas, the landslide material from the hills of more than three meters also stockpiled access roads and plantations of residents in a number of areas in Sugapa District; Yoparu Buguli Village, Yoparu Galunggama, Yoparu Ngamagae, Wandoga, Yokatapa, Kumbalagupa, Bilogai, Puyagia Baitapa and Zombai.
"Intan Jaya BPBD is still collecting data on the number of affected residents, those who are displaced, and the number of houses affected by landslides," he said.
