YMTC, China's Chip Maker, Strengthens Technology Not Used For Military Needs

JAKARTA - China's leading memory chip maker, YMTC, said on Saturday 3 February that its technology was not used for military purposes after being added to a list of entities by the Pentagon assisting the Chinese military.

Last week, the United States added more than a dozen Chinese companies to the list, created by the Department of Defense to highlight companies suspected of working with the Beijing military.

In a statement to Reuters, YMTC said, "We do not provide, or are directed by any entity, to provide our technology for military purposes."

"The YMTC is not owned or controlled by the Chinese military and (we) reject any allegations that we constitute a threat to the national security of the United States," they said in a statement.
