Erick Thohir Will Not Follow Mahfud MD's Steps To Resign From Jokowi's Cabinet

JAKARTA - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir emphasized that he would continue to work as a state official until President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) administration is completed in October 2024.

This means that Erick will not follow in the footsteps of Mahfud MD who chose to resign from his position as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs.

"The function of the minister is as an assistant to the president. So I myself continue to work as usual, helping Pak Jokowi until his reign is completed according to the regulations that have been set," he said in an official statement, Friday, February 2.

Regarding Mahfud MD's resignation, Erick admitted that he appreciated Mahfud MD's decision to declare his resignation from the Advanced Indonesia II Cabinet as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.

"I respect Pak Mahfud's decision to resign, because after all this decision is Mr. Mahfud's right entirely," he said.

Erick admitted that while working as a SOE minister in the Jokowi government volume II, he had good relations with Mahfud MD.

In fact, coordination is often carried out between the Ministry of SOEs and the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs.

"The personal relationship and work between me and Pak Mahfud has been going well. Because of their function as Coordinating Minister, we often coordinate while in the cabinet, especially to complete various tasks given by President Jokowi," he said.
