Police Hold Pesilat Which Causes Chaos In Tulungagung

TULUNGAGUNG - Tulungagung Resort Police, East Java, arrested five fighters and detained four of them for allegedly being the perpetrators of the riots between residents of the silat college in Kawan Kidul Village on January 24, 2024.

"This perpetrator consisted of three students and two adults. The brand was directly involved in the abuse and theft of the victim's belongings," said Tulungagung Police Chief AKBP Arsya Khadadi as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, February 1.

One of the three students identified as involved in the persecution and theft had the initials IMP (16) not been detained because he was under 17 years old.

Meanwhile, two other perpetrators who are also students are detained because they are considered adults and their actions meet criminal elements with the threat of a sentence of more than five years.

Despite exceptions, it is certain that the IMP suspect will continue to undergo legal proceedings up to the court level.

The case of rioting between groups of fighters from different universities occurred on January 24, 2024 night in the area of Surgan Kidul Village, Bandung District.

The attack was carried out by one of the camps with another camp which was motivated by the fanaticism of the silat college group.

"The perpetrators when they passed by other groups saw stickers from other groups, thus making the perpetrators emotional. Then the perpetrators carried out the persecution together and took the victim's belongings in the form of a cell," said Arsya.

The police chief regretted the incident, especially involving children and students.

According to him, this incident could be prevented by the involvement of all elements, including organizations, parents, and teachers at schools.

"This is not only the responsibility of the police or state institutions, but all of them must be held accountable," he said.

He continued that the conflict between residents of silat colleges could result in division. Therefore, everyone must sit down together to solve this problem from now on.

The police chief ensured that the election would not be disturbed by the friction that occurred.

However, his party will continue to anticipate, especially in vulnerable areas and border areas with other districts.

"We make sure the election will run safely," he said.

As a result of his actions, the five perpetrators were charged with Article 170 of the Criminal Code with a maximum prison sentence of nine years.

Especially for the two perpetrators who committed the theft, Article 365 of the Criminal Code was subject to the threat of a sentence of nine years in prison.
