D-12 Voting, Alcohol Prohibited From Circulating In Jayapura During The 2024 Election Period
JAYAPURA - The Jayapura City Government (Pemkot) has temporarily banned the circulation of liquor (alcohol) in Jayapura during the 2024 election contestation period starting today or D-12 voting.
Acting (Pj) Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Jayapura City Robby Awi said the temporary ban was the result of a meeting between the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), the General Election Commission (KPU) and the Jayapura Bawaslu.
"So we ask that the sellers of alcoholic beverages in Jayapura City both in shops and nightclubs temporarily close until they finish voting on February 14, 2024," he said in Jayapura, Thursday, February 1, as reported by Antara.
According to Awi, his party will prepare a circular letter from the mayor regarding the temporary closure of alcoholic beverages to then be given to sellers and owners of nightclubs to be followed up.
"Because our goal is how Jayapura City is safe and peaceful ahead of the election, while at the same time maintaining potential social vulnerabilities," he said.
