Rocked By A Number Of Scandals, Toyota Successfully Maintains The Throne As Automotive Manufacturer With The Most Sales In The World

Toyota Motor Corporation, a giant automotive company from Japan, managed to record impressive sales during 2023 despite being haunted by various scandals that tarnished the company's image.

Throughout this period, this car manufacturer has sold 11,233,039 vehicles globally (increased 7.2 percent), including the Toyota, Lexus, Daihatsu, and Hino brands.

Of the more than 11 million units, 2,304,809 of them were generated from car sales in Japanese territory. Meanwhile, 8,928,230 other units came from sales outside their own homes.

Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) is the best-selling segment in environmentally friendly vehicles as many as 3,420,004 units (an increase of 31.4 percent).

Then, the Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) car ranks second as the electrification segment implemented in Toyota with a total of 124,755 units, an increase of 38.1 percent globally.

Meanwhile, Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) contributed sales of up to 104,018 units (upgrading 325 percent), followed by Mild-Hybrid (MHEV) with 26,859 vehicles, and Fuel-Cell (FCEV) with 3,921 units.

With this result, Toyota managed to maintain its throne as the world's most-selling vehicle manufacturer for four consecutive years, beating several brands like the Volkswagen Group with sales totaling only 9.2 million vehicles and Hyundai-Kia with 7.3 million vehicles.
