Floods Of Mud In Probolinggo And Pasuruan Decide To Access Roads And Bridges

The flash floods that hit Probolinggo and Pasuruan last weekend resulted in a number of road and bridge access being cut off due to mud material.

The East Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) is cleaning up materials that interfere with access in the area.

Head of East Java BPBD Gatot Soebroto in his statement quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, January 30, said that from the results of a quick cross-sectoral review and coordination, the East Java Provincial Government (Pemprov) carried out mud and material cleaning that interfered with road access due to flash floods.

"Most importantly, how can road access be passed and function again, so that community activities can return to normal," he said after reviewing the location of the incident in Lumbang Village, Lumbang District, Pasuruan Regency, and Tambakrejo Village, Tongas District, Probolinggo Regency.

Head of the East Java Public Works and Highways Office, Edy Tambeng Widjaja, who was also involved in the review, said that for Lumbang, his party was ready to help restore the function of roads and bridges that were cut off due to mud and rock materials.

"We will also carry out more detailed assessments, whether it is necessary to create a new route or continue to use this old route. However, the priority is how this village road access can be passed again. That is the step we will take first," he said.

In addition to the two locations, BPBD and the East Java Provincial Government also visited a number of locations affected by flash floods at several points, including in Nguling Village, Nguling District, Pasuruan Regency.

Previously, flash floods due to overflowing watersheds (DAS) Rejoso and DAS Lawean hit a number of areas in Pasuruan and Probolinggo Regencies, Saturday (27/1/2024) night. Although it did not cause any casualties, flash floods caused severe damage.

In Lumbang Village, Pasuruan Regency, the flash flood that occurred resulted in access to village roads covered in mud and large rocks. The bridge to Pancur Village in Lumbang District also cannot be used.

Meanwhile, flash floods in Tambakrejo Village, Tongas District, Probolinggo Regency, caused water and mud to overflow in the Prapatan Hamlet and a number of other hamlets. The wood material and tree trunks carried by the river also clogged the Lawean tributary and overflowed into the surrounding village.
