National Integrity Index Drops, KPK: Risk Of Corruption In Indonesia Increases

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) submitted the results of the 2023 Integrity Assessment Survey (SPI) with a score of 70.97 or rounded up to 71 in the National Integrity Index.

Deputy Chairperson of the KPK, Johanis Tanak said the result showed that the National Integrity Index had decreased from the previous year which scored 71.94 or 72. Thus, it can be interpreted that the more vulnerable or the higher the risk of corruption in Indonesia.

"SPI in 2023 shows a downward trend. In simple terms, it can be understood as the increasing risk of corruption in Indonesia," said Tanak at the KPK Juang building, Friday, January 26.

In addition, the results of the National Integrity Index are also below the target set at RPJM, which is 74 percent. Meanwhile, the target is up two percent every year.

This decline in scores is considered as the basis that there is still a lot of homework regarding improving the governance system of government institutions.

"The fact that the National Integrity Index generally has a downward trend indicates that there is still a lot of homework," he said.

Therefore, improvements must be made with hard work together between government institutions, both at the central and regional levels.

Tanak said there were several things that caused the decline in SPI this year, one of which was high democratic costs. This has an impact on conflicts of interest, especially sponsors of regional head nominations that have an impact on projects and some procurement of goods and services.

"Some things that we think are fundamentally the first, the KPK considers the cost of democracy too expensive," he said.

In addition to the national level, the KPK also highlighted the National Integrity Index per region. Then ranking institutions or regions that have the highest SPI value.

Based on the criteria of ministries/agencies, the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) became the institution with the highest index, namely with a score of 85. Then, the local government with the highest SPI index, namely the Gianyar Regency Government (Pemkab), Bali, with a score of 83.

Meanwhile, the category of ministries/agencies that won the worst SPI index was Radio of the Republic of Indonesia with a score of 59. The regional government with the worst SPI index, namely the Mamberamo Raya Regency Government with a score of 49.

For information, SPI 2023 was conducted with a survey of 3.1 million external respondents. Of the 3.1 million messages via WhatsApp (WA) messages sent, 553,000 respondents filled out a survey with a composition of 58 percent being internal employees of ministries, institutions, local governments, 40 percent of the community, and 2 percent of expert resource persons.
