Local Transmigration Becomes The Manokwari Regency Government's Superior Program For Population Relocation

PAPUA - Local transmigration is one of the main programs of the Manokwari Regency Government (Pemkab), Papua Province.

Manokwari Regent Hermus Indou said the relocation of residents was to solve the problem of equitable development in the area.

"Local transmigration will reduce these problems. Transmigration is one of the prima donna programs to solve problems in Manokwari. Transmigration will be intensified for the next five years. We will build several more settlements and relocate people from the city," he said in Manokwari, Friday, January 26, quoted by Antara.

He said the local government would prepare several areas to be used as local transmigration locations, such as in the Districts (districts) of North Manokwari, East Manokwari, Tanah Rumuh and the SP (Employment Unit) area.

He explained that the area would be included in the regional spatial plan (RTRW) of the Manokwari Regency Government for the development of local transmigration.

"We will talk to several tribal chiefs to make sure some areas can be used as local transmigration areas," he said.

He added that the government would be responsible for building basic infrastructure in a number of these areas, such as roads and housing.

According to him, local transmigration is one of the strategies for equitable population as well as equitable development. It is hoped that the government will be able to improve the welfare of its people.

He said, through transmigration, areas that were previously unproductive would be managed by the community's natural resources.

"A number of areas in Manokwari used to be forest, but because of government development and local transmigration, the area is slowly open. Regions that have not progressed, when there is a transmigration program, they can progress," he said.
