BYD Announces Production Launch At Uzbekistan Factory, Song Plus Model Becomes First
JAKARTA - BYD officially started production of its electric cars in Uzbekistan, following the meeting of Uzbekistan's President, Shavkat Mirziyayev with Wang Chuanfu, President BYD at the head office located in Shenzhen, China.
As reported by Carnewschina, Friday, January 26, the first production will be carried out is the Song Plus DM-i model. At the same time, Wang gave the Yangwang U8 model to the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Yangwang is the premium brand BYD launched in January 2023, with the first model, Yangwang U8, starting in China in September 2023 at a price of 1,098 million yuan or around IDR 2.4 billion.
During the visit, President Mirziyoyev witnessed the Blade BYD Battery safety demonstration, which had been tested. He also had the opportunity to observe the ability of the Yangwang U8 turn-in-place in the smart outdoor parking demonstration area.
In discussions with Wang Chuanfu, Mirziyoyev expressed his hope for increasing production capacity at the Uzbekistan facility and deepening cooperation between the two entities.
As is known, the agreement to produce electric and hybrid vehicles in Uzbekistan was signed last September. According to the agreement, BYD and Uzavtosanoat JSC, a state-owned automotive group in Uzbekistan, established a joint venture, the "BYD Uzbekistan Factory," to produce electric and hybrid vehicles.

Earlier this month, BYD launched three pure electric models in Indonesia. And BYD's expansion to Uzbekistan is part of a broader global strategy of the company. and announced an investment of USD 1.3 billion in automotive factories there, with a production capacity of 150,000 units.
Meanwhile, according to a report from the Financial Times in the middle of the month, BYD is building its first electric vehicle factory outside Asia in Brazil.
Alexandre Baldy, Director of BYD in the South American region, discussed a potential supply agreement, joint venture, or acquisition with Sigma Lithium, a USD 2.9 billion Brazilian lithium producer.
BYD's global expansion also includes a new plant in Thailand, another plan is the construction of an electric vehicle factory in Hungary, and ongoing negotiations to build facilities in Mexico.
