Proven Corruption, Former UINSU Chancellor Sentenced To 6 Years In Prison Plus Rp956 Million In Replacement Money
The panel of judges at the Medan District Court sentenced the defendant Saidurrahman, the former Chancellor of the State Islamic University of North Sumatra, in the case of corruption in the 2020 2020 student ma'had fund program.
"In addition, the defendant was fined Rp. 200 million, subsidiary to two months in prison," said Chief Judge Sulhanuddin at the Medan District Court, North Sumatra, as reported by ANTARA, Monday, January 22.
Sulhanuddin said the panel of judges believed that the defendant was found guilty of violating Article 2 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 18 of Law No. 31 of 1999 concerning the eradication of criminal acts of corruption as amended by Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 20 of 2001 concerning amendments to Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 31 of 1999 concerning the eradication of criminal acts of corruption in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) to 1 of the Criminal Code.
The defendant was also charged with a substitute money (UP) of Rp956 million with the provision of a month after this case had permanent legal force, the convict's property was confiscated and auctioned off by the prosecutor (JPU).
"If the UP is not sufficient, it will be replaced with three years in prison," said Sulhanuddin.
He said the aggravating thing was that the defendant did not support the government's program in eradicating corruption, hampering UINSU's progress, had the status of a wanted list (DPO), had been convicted and resulted in state losses during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The thing that relieves the defendant is being polite in the trial," he said.
