Important! These Are The Characteristics Of Eye Disease Children According To Specialist Doctors

JAKARTA - Parents need to recognize some characteristics that their child needs an eye examination so that they can get the right treatment immediately.

This was conveyed by an eye specialist who is also a lecturer at Universitas Brawijaya, dr. Lely Retno W., SpM (K).

Lely during an online event that was attended from Jakarta, Saturday, said that usually one of the eye health problems faced by children is blurred or blurry vision.

"One of the characteristics or signs is that usually children like to mitigate their eyes. They turn their eyes to try to see it so that what they see is clear," said Lely, quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, January 20.

In addition, another characteristic of children who need eye examination is that they often check their eyes because they feel uncomfortable with their unclear vision. The habit of checking their eyes is usually accompanied by complaints of dizziness.

If these characteristics occur in the baby, parents are advised to ask the child about the discomfort and take him to take an eye check so that he can find out whether his eyes have problems or not.

The doctor also gave easy tips so that both parents and children can do an initial examination whether their eyes have problems or not.

"You can try to cover one of his eyes from there, you can see if his vision is blurred or not. Children, right, never cover one of their eyes. If both of them are open, right, it looks okay, if one is closed it turns out that the other eye is running away. That means it needs to be checked," said Lely.

Regarding the problem of child vision problems, at the end of 2023 the Indonesian Optometric Professional Association (IROPIN) stated that since the COVID-19 pandemic, 400 out of 1,000 Indonesian children have experienced eye problems or early refraction disorders.

One of the reasons is the habit of accessing uncontrolled devices and making children exceed the ideal time limit for being exposed to a device screen.
