India Open 2024: Anthony Ginting Loses In Quarter Finals

JAKARTA Anthony Sinisuka Ginting's men's singles are confirmed to return from the quarter-finals of the India Open 2024 after being beaten by Lee Cheuk Yiu.

The bronze medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics was forced to give up in the rubber games 17-21, 21-18, and 13-21 against the Hong Kong representative on Friday, January 19, 2024, WIB night.

Ginting actually appeared to lead in the first two points in the first game. Opponents chased and then equalized the score to 4-4, 6-6, and 7-7 before Ginting turned two points ahead again.

However, the opponent scored five points in a row after that. Anthony Ginting had caught up to 13-14, but his opponent managed to keep his distance until he won.

In the second game, Ginting and Lee were involved in chasing points until the score was 6-6. Three draws occurred again after that before Ginting moved away with five consecutive points to lead 19-14.

Opponents had responded with four consecutive points to cut the score to 18-19. However, Ginting managed to score two points in a row after that.

In the deciding game there are five twin points up to 10-10. After that, the opponent appeared dominant and Ginting was only able to add three more points.

Ginting against Lee always went fierce. In the previous four meetings, the two badminton players shared a two-time win and lost twice.

The first three meetings of the number of clashes were also completed with a rubber game. The only match that finished the straight game took place at the Indonesia Masters 2023, where Ginting came out as the winner.

The defeat at the 2024 India Open adds to Ginting's poor record in two tournaments which were participated earlier this year. Previously, at the 2024 Malaysia Open last week, the move by the badminton player from West Java even stopped in the second round.

Ginting's defeat makes Indonesia now just have to hope for the men's doubles pair Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, who are fighting after this.
