East Java Police Name 4 Suspects Of Selection Fraud For ASN Candidates, Total Loss Of Victims Of IDR 7.4 Billion

The East Java Regional Police have uncovered a case of fraud in the selection of candidates for state civil servants (ASN) at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) and the local Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) by arresting four suspects.

"The four suspects are YH, FS, M and N," said Deputy Director of General Criminal Investigation of the East Java Police AKBP Pitter Yanottama in Surabaya as reported by ANTARA, Friday, January 19.

Pitter said the case was revealed after a police report on behalf of victim Ridwan in March 2023.

In this case, three waves of fraud were divided against several victims by the suspects.

"The first wave has 20 victims who participated in the selection to become ASN at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights. However, the results of the selection failed, then the suspect YH who knew the victim appeared promising the victim that the 20 failed people could pass through the follow-up formation," he said.

Upon the persuasion of the suspect YH, the victims were finally tempted and followed what the suspect wanted by asking for some money in order to pass them to become ASN at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.

"The total money given by dozens of victims to the suspect was Rp. 1,384 billion. However, after the money was given, it turned out that the dozens of victims did not pass to become ASN," he said.

Then suspect YH introduced suspect FS and suspect N to the victims by promising that the two suspects had extensive and strong access to the National Civil Service Agency (BKN), even being able to include people who wanted to become ASN at the central and district/city levels.

"On persuasion, the victim was tempted and agreed that the three suspects who convinced the victim were able to pass to become an ASN," he said.

In this second wave, FS received Rp3.25 billion to pass 62 victims to become ASN in several governments both at the central and district or city levels.

"After that the victim never received information about his graduation to become an ASN. Then the suspects FS and N again convinced the victim until then made a fake NIK on behalf of two people as if the NIK number center had appeared. On that basis the victim believed and did not pursue the suspect," he said.

Furthermore, the suspects committed a third wave of fraud. At that time, the suspects FH, FS and N introduced the suspect M to the victim under the pretext that he had access to the Ministry of Religion.

"On persuasion, the victim in the third wave was deceived and gave Rp4.1 billion to suspect M with the desire that 21 people become ASN in the ministry of religion," he said.

"So that a total of Rp7.4 billion has been given to the four suspects and the result is that none of the people have become ASN," he said.

For his actions, the four suspects were charged with Article 378 of the Criminal Code and/or Article 372 of the Criminal Code Juncto Article 55 of the Criminal Code with a 4-year prison sentence or a maximum fine of IDR 500 million.
