5 Members Of The Maluku Aru KPU Become Suspects Of Corruption, Change Wait For Central Directions

The General Election Commission (KPU) of Maluku Province is still waiting for the central direction to replace the five commissioners of the KPU of the Aru Islands Regency who have been named as suspects for alleged corruption in the 2020 Pilkada grant.

"The election stage in Aru Regency has so far been running safely and smoothly. And after the detention of the chairman and members of the KPU for the alleged corruption case of the Pilkada grant funds, the next step is waiting for the Indonesian KPU policy," said Maluku KPU Chairman Syamsul Rifan Kubangun, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, January 19.

Rifan said, after being detained, usually the legal apparatus, both the police and the prosecutor's office, will submit an official letter to the Maluku KPU regarding the detention.

If the Maluku KPU has received the letter, his party will forward it to the Indonesian KPU to receive further instructions and directions in the implementation of the General Election in Aru.

"So later we will coordinate with the legal apparatus. Then we will follow up with the Indonesian KPU and wait for the KPU RI's instructions," he said.

According to him, regarding the issue of the Aru KPU, the Maluku KPU did not intervene legally. The KPU appreciates the legal process carried out by the police and the prosecutor's office.

"We do not intervene in the slightest. We appreciate the legal process carried out by law enforcement officers," said Rifan.

Previously, five commissioners of the Aru KPU were detained by the Public Prosecutor, namely KPU Aru Chair, Mustafa Darakay, and four members of Yoseph Sudarso Labok, Moh Adjir Kadir, Tina Jofita Putranubun, and Kenan Rahalus.

The detention was carried out after the Public Prosecutor received the phase 2 process from the Aru Police Satreskrim investigators. Phase 2 or handover of the suspect and evidence was carried out at the Maluku High Prosecutor's Office in Ambon City, last Wednesday.

The alleged corruption case of misuse of the regional election grant for the Regent and Deputy Regent of the Aru Islands 2020 was rolled into the realm of law after the PPK was reported to the Aru Police.
