Minister Of Transportation Will Fine Naughty Airlines Who Raise Ticket Prices

Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi emphasized that he would impose sanctions on rogue airlines that raise aircraft ticket prices beyond the upper limit (TBA) set by the government.

Furthermore, Budi said the sanctions that will be given are in the form of imposing fines on anyone who violates the applicable rules.

"This ticket is indeed a dilemma, but we emphasize that whoever, any operator, if the upper limit is exceeded, we will fine it," he said during a working meeting with Commission V of the DPR, at the DPR Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, January 18.

Currently, said Budi, there are already rules regarding the amount of fines to be imposed. However, Budi said that if the airline remains naughty, there is a chance that the number of fines will be increased.

"That the fine is not optimal, maybe we will increase the amount of fines applied," he explained.

Previously, the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Transportation, Adita Irawati, said that his party had even found a number of airlines that violated the TBA before the Christmas and New Year's (Nataru) minutes.

Adita said this violation especially occurred when there were certain routes that were only operated by one airline. Even so, he did not specify when the violation occurred and which airline violated it.

Quoted from the official website of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, each airline must determine flight ticket rates not exceeding the Upper Limit Tariff (TBA) or not below the Lower Limit Tariff (TBB) along with other tariff provisions such as Fuel Surcharge (FS) in accordance with statutory provisions, to maintain the momentum of national flight recovery.

This provision refers to the Regulation of the Minister of Transportation Number PM 20 of 2019 concerning Procedures and Formulation for Calculation of Limit Tariffs for Passengers of Domestic Scheduled Commercial Air Transport Economic Class Services.
