India Open 2024: Anthony Ginting To Quarter Finals

JAKARTA Anthony Sinisuka Ginting's men's singles qualified for the quarter-finals of the India Open 2024 after defeating Kenta Nishimoto.

Anthony Ginting overtook the Japanese representatives in two straight games 21-8 and 21-17 at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall, Delhi, India, Thursday, January 18, 2024, evening WIB.

In the first game, Ginting was 1-3 behind. He then scored five consecutive points to get up and his position after that could not be overtaken by the opponent.

Then in the second game, Anthony and his opponent played tight. Their points totaled nine draws, before Ginting started not to be followed after the 13-13 position.

In the quarter-finals, Friday (19/1/2024), Ginting will meet Lee Cheuk Yiu. This Hong Kong representative qualified after stopping the seventh seed from Thailand, Kunlavut Vitidsarn.

Ginting, the silver medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, was the first Indonesian representative to successfully advance to the quarter-finals of the BWF Super 750 level event.

Previously, there were already three representatives who ran aground in the second half. They are the women's singles Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, mixed doubles Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati, and Jonatan Christie's singles.

Gregoria returned home after losing to Singapore's representative Yeo Jia Min. Rehan/Lisa was beaten by the Chinese Taipei pair, Ye Hong Wei/Lee Chia Hsin. Finally, Jonathan was stopped by Malaysia's representative, Lee Zii Jia.
