Hybrid Cars Are More Popular Than Pure Electric Cars In Indonesia, What Are The Factors?

JAKARTA - Sales of environmentally friendly vehicles Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), and hybrid in Indonesia have increased during 2023.

This refers to data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo). Full electric cars in 2022 will reach 10,323 units, while in 2023 it will reach 17,051 units.

In addition, sales of HEV or hybrid vehicles in 2022 will reach 10,344 units, and in 2023 it will reach 54,174 units. This means that hybrid car sales have increased compared to BEV.

"The hybrid spike is because electric cars are not the first time buyers," said Kukuh Kumara, General Secretary of Gaikindo, during a discussion for Forwot, in Jakarta, Tuesday, January 16.

"The jump in the hybrid car is because electric cars are not the first time buyers," added Kukuh.

Not only that, he said the sale of hybrid cars was more selling well due to the choice of more variants than electric cars today.

"If a hybrid car has a choice of seven-seater variant, while there are more electric cars that are small or compact," said Kukuh.
