Bukit Asam Coal Production Reaches 41.9 Million Tons In 2023

JAKARTA - PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) recorded that total coal production from January to December 2023 reached 41.9 million tons or grew 13 percent compared to 2022 which was 37.1 million tons.

This production achievement managed to exceed the target of 41 million tons set in early 2023.

Mining service contractor PT Pamapersada Nusantara (PAMA) contributed 56 percent of production or 23.6 million tons. Then PT Satria Bahana Sarana (SBS), a mining service contractor who is also the grandson of PTBA, contributed 7.5 million tons or 18 percent of production. Another contractor, PT Putra Perkasa Abadi (PPA), contributed 5.6 million tons or 13 percent.

While the remaining 4.2 million tons or 10 percent are the result of PTBA's self-management production. Then 1.03 million tons were contributed by PTBA's subsidiary, PT International Prima Coal (IPC).

The increase in production was in line with the increase in coal sales volume to 37.0 million tons. The company recorded export sales of 15.6 million tons, an increase of 25 percent compared to 2022. Meanwhile, domestic sales were recorded at 21.4 million tons or grew 12 percent on an annual basis (year on year).

"The company continues to strive to optimize operational performance. We will maximize the potential of the domestic market as well as export opportunities to a number of countries that have good growth prospects, both existing markets and new markets," said PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) Corporate Secretary, Niko Chandra in a statement to the media, Tuesday, January 16.

PTBA's export markets in 2023 are increasingly diverse. There are several new markets that have been successfully optimized, including Vietnam, the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, and Bangladesh.

Strategic projects continue to be carried out to support the company's performance. Among them are the PLTU Mouth Tambang Sumsel-8 (2x621.72 MW) which has been effective commercially operating since October 7, 2023, and the development of coal transportation related to Tanjung Enim - Keramasan which will increase capacity to 20 million tons per year.
