JAKARTA - Adrian Stefanus Louis Manuhutu alias Ade Manuhutu was a famous singer in the 1970s who later chose to become a priest and was active in Christian religious activities.
Born in Ambon on July 10, 1948, Ade Manuhutu breathed his last on Sunday, January 14 yesterday. He died at the age of 75.
Ade Manuhutu was known to the public through the songs he performed, including Miss Anna and Virgo. In addition, he is also noted to have starred in several film titles, such as the Girls Deposit (1976), Cinta Bersemi (1977), and Curious (1977).
Several great Indonesian singers who started their music careers almost simultaneously were Bob Tutupoly, Eddy Silitonga, and Broery Marantika.
In the late 1980s, Ade Manuhutu chose to leave the world of entertainment and focus on religious activities. As a Christian, he chose to become a priest and preach through the Indonesian Bethel Church (GBI).
In 2001, Ade Manuhutu's name returned to the public, not back as a public figure, but his involvement in the circulation of fake American dollars.
Ade Manuhutu, who was taking a taxi at that time, was arrested by the police while passing Jalan Metro Pondok Indah. Along with him, an iron suitcase was secured which was said to have been entrusted by Ade's friend who was a foreign national.
Having been detained for a while at the South Jakarta Metro Police, Ade Manuhutu was released after the Central Leadership Council of the Indonesian Bethel Church gave guarantees.
Then, on several occasions after the fake US dollar case, Ade admitted that he did not know the contents of the suitcase that his friend had entrusted.
During his detention, he was only questioned, and foreign nationals who were known to be from Papua New Guinea were also arrested by the police.
