ICW Suggests Jokowi Only Send One Name To The DPR To Replace Firli Bahuri, Why?

JAKARTA - Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) suggested that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) only send one replacement name for Firli Bahuri as the KPK leader. This step needs to be taken to prevent covert things.

It is known that the head of the anti-corruption commission is now only filled with four people after Firli was dismissed by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). Retired Bhayangkara Corps submitted his resignation after being named by Polda Metro Jaya as a suspect in the alleged extortion of former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo.

"The president should send a single candidate to Commission III of the DPR RI. This is to prevent exchange of interests between the two candidates and members of the legislature," said ICW researcher Diky Anandya in a written statement quoted Monday, January 15.

Diky also said that the president must consider the number of votes for the replacement leadership candidates from the results of the fit and proper test in 2019. There are four names of candidates in the process.

They are Sigit Danang Joyo who got 19 votes, Lutfhi Jayadi Kurniawan won seven votes as well as I Nyoman Wara and Roby Arya B who both got zero votes. "Symptomaticly using the method of 'garnuts'. This is important to be in line with the historical previous selection," he said.

This anti-corruption activist agrees that choosing the right person to replace Firli is not an easy thing. However, Diky reminded President Jokowi that he had to send the right candidate so that incidents like Firli Bahuri would not happen again.

Moreover, the public will have high hopes for this figure. "Prospective substitute members are required to be able to recover the KPK, which has been getting a negative stigma," said Diki.

In addition, elected candidates for replacement members of the KPK leadership must also be able to work independently and implicitly. Given that 2024 or in the remaining period of the current KPK period, we are entering the political year from elections to regional elections," he concluded.
