Debate Format Criticized, KPU: Already In Accordance With The Wishes Of The Presidential And Vice Presidential Candidates Success Team
JAKARTA - KPU member August Mellaz, emphasized that the presidential candidate (candidate) debate format and the 2024 election vice presidential candidate (cawapres) have been prepared optimally and are in accordance with the wishes of the winning team for the presidential and vice presidential candidates.
Despite criticism regarding the lack of substance, Mellaz stated that the format of the debate had involved a team of candidate pairs and reflected various proposals.
"The KPU is always open to evaluation, and today we are holding a third debate evaluation meeting with the campaign team for the 2024 presidential and vice presidential election pairs," said Mellaz, Wednesday, January 10.
The meeting discussed a number of issues that arose during the third debate, including the rules of candidate pairs, disturbances in moderators, and viral video incidents containing supporters. The KPU will examine notes and documentation to evaluate each aspect.
"What has to be asked like this, what is less substantive than this debate? The format of the debate is part of the format that we are compiling together between the KPU and the team of candidate pairs. Make no mistake, that format also accommodates many proposals from the candidate pair team," he said.
Previously, KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy'ari, emphasized that there would be no change in the presidential and vice presidential candidates debate format in 2024.

The guidelines that have been agreed upon by all successful teams of candidate pairs will still be followed, and new signs will not be applied to the next debates.
"The debate model has been agreed with the six segments and the duration of the debate that has been set. Everything has been clearly regulated, and the debate of four and five will continue to follow the same format," said Hasyim.
