Defense Minister Prabowo Pamer House Floating Made By Defense University: Price Of IDR 130 Million, Able To Use 10-15 Years
JAKARTA - Minister of Defense (Menhan) Prabowo Subianto exhibited a floating house construction program from the Defense University to help coastal communities in the northern coastal area of Java Island whose houses are currently submerged due to rising sea level.Prabowo explained that the construction of a floating house from the Defense University is one way to help coastal communities survive properly while waiting for the plan to build a giant sea wall on the north coast of Java Island to be realized."We already have a prototype (which) will be assisted by PT PAL who is a ship expert, PT LEN, with engineers from the Defense University. We have two floating cheap house prototypes worth Rp130 million (per) one house," said Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto during a national seminar on the giant sea embankment in Jakarta, Antara, Wednesday, January 10.He explained that one floating house unit was equipped with a solar panel and septic tank power plant."(Residents occupying floating houses, ed.) can live off-grid without depending on PLN's (electric network) and can live with clean sanitation," Prabowo said in front of several ministers, practitioners, experts, and students.Prabowo estimates that the floating house worth Rp150 million can be used for 10 –15 years."Thus, (with) Rp150 million, they can use it for 10–15 years. If 10 years, it means Rp15 million a year. For one family, live a clean and healthy life, children grow well while this big idea (giant sea wall) is carried out," said Prabowo.Prabowo in a national seminar entitled "The Strategy for the Protection of Java Island Areas through the Development of Coastal Embankments and Sea Embankments (Giant Sea Wall)" also highlighted the importance of ensuring that the plan to build a sea embankment on the north coast of Java Island is realized and running continuously.Therefore, he considered that there needed to be a political commitment from state officials and politicians to build it, the benefits of saving people on the coast from the threat of climate change. The reason is that the construction of a giant sea wall is not an instant project, but it will take at least 40 years."We understand the country is running in a political system through political parties manned by politicians, and the politician thinks five years, because he will be in power or not, in power for five years. The issue of giant sea wall may be that engineers understand, and will convey, I am sure that this sea wall issue will take 40 years or more," he said.Therefore, he invited all parties to start acting and participate in ensuring that the construction of the giant sea wall, especially on the island of Java, runs continuously.
"For the first phase only, A, B is Rp164 trillion, maybe everything will be as I heard will eat 50 – 60 billion dollars (US), maybe more. Later someone will always say can? This is not possible or can't. This must or not, (because otherwise coastal communities on the north coast sink," said the Indonesian Defense Minister.
