Four Volcanoes In North Sulawesi With Alert Status
MANADO - The Center for Monitoring of Volcano and Disaster Mitigation of the Land Movement of Sulawesi and Maluku noted that there are four volcanoes spread across several districts and cities in North Sulawesi Province (Sulut) with a level two alert status.
"We hope that residents around the mountain will continue to comply with the recommended hazard radius," said Head of the Center for Monitoring of Volcano and Disaster Mitigation of the Land Movements of Sulawesi and Maluku, Juliana DJ Rumambi, ST in Manado as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, January 9.
The four volcanoes are Mount Awu in Sangihe Islands Regency, Mount Karangetang (Sitaaro Islands Regency), Gunung Lokon (Tomohon City) and Gunung Soputan ( Southeast Minahasa Regency).
"Indeed, an earthquake was recorded in and a shallow earthquake for Mount Awu, it was already routinely like that. But it didn't then increase activity," he said.
He also mentioned that on December 5, 2023, Mount Lokon also showed signs of increasing activity and had immediately coordinated with stakeholders.

It is only increased the distance from the crater, not the status. The danger radius from 1.5 kilometers is extended to 2.5 kilometers. Expanded disaster-prone areas to 2.5 kilometers is still valid today," he said.
In addition to the four volcanoes, there are still four other volcanoes but still have a level one normal status.
The four volcanoes are Mount Ruang in Sitaro Islands Regency, Mount Tangkoko (Bitung City), Mount Mahawu (Tomohon City) and Gunung Ambang (Bolaang Mongondow Regency).
