Petra Kvitova Announces Pregnancy, Absent At Australian Open 2024

JAKARTA Petra Kvitova officially announced the pregnancy of her first child and confirmed that she would miss the first Grand Slam of the season at the 2024 Australian Open.

The two-time Wimbledon champion is included in the list of participants in the prestigious tournament, but as this pregnancy he also chose to focus on preparing himself to become a mother.

Kvitova shared the news of her pregnancy via Instagram, Monday, January 1, 2024. It was her first child with her husband Jiri Vinek, the former number one tennis player of the Republic of Ceska.

"On the first day of 2024, I would like to wish you a happy New Year and share the good news that Jiri and I will welcome a baby in our family this summer," Kvitova wrote.

"Although I will miss my annual trip to Australia (Open) and compete in my beloved sport, I can't wait to spend time at home and prepare for an exciting new chapter in our lives," he added.

Kvitova's last appearance on the pitch took place at the China Open in October 2023. At that time, he was beaten by Liudmila Samsonova in two straight sets.

Currently Kvitova is ranked 17th in the world. Her best performance at Grand Slam in 2023 took place at Wimbledon, which she reached the fourth round before losing against Ons Jabeur.
