DKI Residents Are Asked To Be Aware Of Extreme Weather For The Next Few Days

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Development and Environment Assistant Yusmada Faizal asked the people of the capital to be aware of the potential heavy rain to flood in the next few days.

This, said Yusmada, is based on predictions from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) of the potential extreme weather in Jakarta.

"For all families, this is based on BMKG predictions as well, in 2-3 days, the potential extreme rain will still occur. It is important for all of us to be cautious," said Yusmada on Friday, February 19.

The potential extreme weather in the next few days could result in flooding like yesterday. The DKI Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) noted that 99 RTs in Jakarta were flooded yesterday. In detail, there are 3 RTs in West Jakarta and 96 RTs in East Jakarta.

Yusmada explained the cause of the flood yesterday. He said the highest rainfall on Thursday, February 18 to Friday, February 19 was in the Halim Perdanakusuma area with 160 millimeters per day, Manggarai and Pasar Minggu 130 millimeters per day, and Sunter Hulu 107 millimeters per day.

Unfortunately, the drainage system in DKI is built with a rainfall capacity of between 50 and 100 millimeters per day. Drainage in the area is unable to accommodate water with high rainfall, resulting in water overflows to settlements.

"Please note, our drainage system is designed based on the rainfall of 50 to 100 milliliters per day. Hence, if there is extreme rain up to 160 millimeters, it will overflow," he explained.

"As a result of the rain yesterday afternoon, generally it was at 5 o'clock yesterday. Likewise, the one that rained last night, this morning, at 9 a.m. it had receded. Except for areas like the one in Cipinang Melayu, that includes the rain at Halim," he continued.

As for BMKG predictions today, there is the potential rain that can be accompanied by lightning or strong winds in the areas of South Jakarta, West Jakarta, and East Jakarta during the day and night.

In West Jakarta, light rain is predicted in the morning, heavy rain from day to night, and cloudy in the early morning. In Central Jakarta, it is predicted that it will experience light rain in the morning, moderate rain in the afternoon, light rain in the evening, and in the early morning it will be cloudy.

In South Jakarta, it is predicted that it will experience moderate rain in the morning, heavy rain in the afternoon, moderate rain at night, and in the early morning it will be cloudy. In East Jakarta, it is predicted that it will experience moderate rain in the morning, lightning rain in the afternoon, moderate rain in the evening, and in the early morning it will be cloudy.

In North Jakarta, light rains are predicted throughout the day. Meanwhile, in the Kepulauan Seribu, it will rain lightly in the morning until night and in the early morning, it will be light rain.
